Winter Sports

One of the funnest things to do for many people around the world in the winter
time is to go to the ski slopes.  Drinking hot chocolate in the ski lodge while sitting around
a warm fire at lunch time is always relaxing, especially after being cut-off by some crazy
moron flying down the slope and throwing snow all over you or making you crash while
trying to dodge him.  These people who don’t obey the rules on the slopes cause not only
a nuisance for those who do obey the rules, but also pose a safety hazard for the rest of
the “ski/snowboard community”.
Everyone likes to have a good time at the slopes.  Most people go to ski, and a
growing number go to snowboard.  I prefer snowboarding, but the individuals I’m trying
to address here are not just the skiers or the snowboarders, or even the sledders and
tubers.  I’m talking about all of them; the ones who break the rules and cause problems for
those who are there to have a good, and a safe, time.
One problem that I’ve seen on the slopes is the people who ski too fast.  I’m not
trying to say that they shouldn’t ski that fast because they can’t control themselves,
because some of them are quite capable to handle the speed that they are traveling. Some
of them aren’t though.  What I’m trying to say is that there are always children or even
adults who may not be as skilled at the sport and may accidentally turn right in front of the
speeder.  Other speeders don’t know what they’re doing; it just seems as if they’re skiing
with half of a brain.  Most of them don’t even know the danger they are putting
themselves and others around them into.  I’ve seen it before and it usually turns out to be
a big mess for both individuals.
Another problem I’ve witnessed before are those who ski out of bounds.  There
are many dangers in doing this, and I have to admit that I have even done it a few times
myself.  It’s a real thrill to make new tracks and ski where there is perfect snow because it
hasn’t been run over by the hundreds of other people on the resort.  Skiing out of bounds
poses a threat to not only yoursel...
