     The internet is like the "wild west" waiting to be tamed by the proper
manners of polite society.  We have "gunslingers" or "hackers" battling for
control with marshals or cyber police for control.  In this article the author gives
us ten basic rules for proper etiquette on the internet.  The internet is like a new
frontier with everyone running wild, a new territory with guidelines waiting to be
formed.  Not only do law and order have to be established, but basic manners of
society have to be re-introduced.    The author gives us ten basic rules that
should be followed on the internet.
     Her  first rule, "remember the human," (Shea, 109) is important because it
is too easy to forget that there is a person behind the typed words on the
computer screen.  She equates the impersonality of the computer screen to
drivers in a car shouting things at each other.   People tend to act differently
when they are not face to face with another person.   Another thing to be aware
of when sending messages on the internet is that they are usually stored
somewhere and could come back to haunt you.
     All ten rules are basic common sense applied to the internet.  In other
words you should act on the internet the same as you would in every day life.
Being on the internet does not give you an excuse to be rude or to "steal."  And
when entering a new area or chat room on the internet, you should take time to
