Geography

Geography is the study of people, their environments, and their resources.

Latitude is the measure of distances north or south of the Equator.

Longitude is the measure of distances east or west of the Prime Meridian.

Migration is the moving of people from one area to another.

Interdependence is the dependence of countries on goods, the resources, and
knowledge from other parts of the world.

The four map projections are as follows:  
The Mercator Projection which was invented in 1596 and showed direction accurately,
and sailors could then know if they were sailing north, south, east, or west.  Also the
Mercator Projection gave accurate view of land areas near the Equator but it distorted
land sizes near the north and south poles.  
The Interrupted projection was able to show map makers correct sizes and shapes of
landmasses by cutting out parts of oceans.  But, the cuts made it impossible to measure
distances accurately or to plot a course across and ocean.  
The Peters Projection shows the correct sizes and areas of landmasses and oceans,
but it distorts the shapes of Africa and South America, for they appear longer and thinner
than they really are.  
The Robinson Projection  is the projection by which many maps use today.  It shows
fairly accurate views of the sizes of oceans and the distances across land areas, but
there are distortions especially in regions shown along the edges.
