Who is the hero in the Quest of the Golden Fleece?

     In many Greek heroic tales, the hero of the story is traditionally a male
figure who shows characters of strongness and courage, such as Perseus or
Theseus.  But there is an exception to this archetype of a hero in greek
mythology, specifically in the Quest of the Golden Fleece.  In the Quest of the
Golden Fleece, Medea is the true hero of the story.
     Before we begin, we must first define what a hero is.  It is difficult to
pinpoint exact traits that can label someone as a hero.  A hero is someone who
has a righteous and moral goal and tries to achieve it as best as they can.  For
this cause, they are willing to sacrifice.  Sometimes they things they do to
achieve this end may not be moral but it is impossible to act morally at all times.
     Throughout the story, Jason was able to defeat everything that came in
his way.  However, he would never have been able to accomplish this himself.
Medea used her magic in order for Jason to acquire the Golden Fleece and
return peacefully.  She made it possible for Jason to become invisible after
putting on the special lotion.   Some people may say that her use of sorcery
makes her less of a hero but I disagree.  Her use of black magic is just as valid
as any other heroes' power.  Heroes such as Perseus and Theseus were helped
by gods or goddesses in order to comple...
