FOUNDATIONS OF THE AMERICAN DREAM By: Ryan Epstein In society today I think there are many different perspectives of what the American Dream is, and all the different ideas come from different cultures (most of them coming from Europe). However, these perspectives or ideals of the American Dream had to all originate somewhere. I think if we take a look into history, we’ll find that the American Dream was based on man’s economic greed for prosperity, wealth, and power; examples of this include when Hitler attempted to take over the world or the great California Gold Rush. To achieve the high economic standard that man set for himself, he needed independence and freedom from the king, so he could create a government where you could start from nowhere and still become something. In the king’s England, you were born into a class and that was where you stayed, no ifs ands or buts about it. IN the American government, you have the right to an education and if you work hard, you can earn scholastic scholarships and go to a university on free money. This is called oppo...
