Ho Chi Minh
Ho Chi Minh can’t be considered a villain yet he can’t be considered that great of a hero. He wanted only the best for Vietnam but the approaches he used weren’t always the best. In my eyes at least.
Ho Chi Minh, originally named Nguyeu That Thanhi, was born on May 19, 1809, In Hoang Tru, Vietnam (then known as French Indo-China) After he finished technical school in Saigon he went to work on Ocean freighters, which took him all around Africa and as far as Boston and New York city. He later moved to Paris where he organized a protest, with a group of Vietnamese living there, against French colonial policy.
In 1924 Ho Chi Minh went to Moscow to study Communist revolution methods. He was inspired by the success of the Russian revolution. He then moved to China and spent most of WWII there. There he organized the Indo-Chinese communist party. In about 1940 he began to use the name Ho Chi Minh, meaning “He who enlightens”.
In 1941 he and his comrades formed The League for Independence of Vietnam (Vietminh). By 1945 the Japanese had taken over Vietnam and have defeated the French. Later that same year the United States had defeated the Japanese. Ho Chi Minh immediately made good with the US to have a back incase any conflicts with the French colonial rule arose. On Sept 2,1945 Ho proclaimed the independence of Vietnam and became it’s first president. During his 24 years in office, Ho led the Vietminh in 8 years of guerilla warfare against France.
