Life:  A Right Or A Sentence?

     On June 4, 1990, Janet Adkins, age 54, became Dr. Jack Kevorkian’s first patient to commit suicide under his supervision.  With His assistance, Janet injected lethal drugs into her body.  Since then, many others have sought his help, and controversy over the issue of assisted suicide has sparked.  Assisted suicide should be completely legal.
     Religious organizations and individuals are by far the largest, most outspoken group against assisted suicide.  These closed-minded, selfish people constantly spit out worn cliches such as, “Only God has a right to take a human life,” or, “Suicide is a sin.”  This is outrageous!  Do they not realize that not everyone has the same religion as them or even has one at all?  Their statements are completely irrelevant, because it is unconstitutional to base governmental policy on material that is religiously discriminatory.  Also, most of these self-righteous people do not have the slightest idea what it is like to live with a terminal disease or be in constant pain.  Besides, even if it is a “sin” to kill yourself, shouldn’t you have a choice to sin, as long as the only person you hurt is yourself?  If everyone had no choice but to live like a perfect Christian, for example, then what would be the point of going to church or reading the Bible?  Everyone would be a zombie.
     Members of organized medicine also oppose assisted suicide.  These people believe that doctors (such as Kevorkian) have violated the basis of medical ethics, which states you should keep a patient alive at all costs.  Since when did ethics become laws?  These people seem not to...
