According to the Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia, alcohol, even at low doses, significantly impairs the judgment and coordination required driving a car safely. Several studies pointed out that alcohol depresses the activity of certain parts of the brain -In particular the parts responsible for our inhibitions and co-ordination (Source 9). Therefore, people usually lost their self-control abilities, and not react to problems as fast as usual after they got drunk. That is the reason of why there are so many alcohol-related deaths and injuries. She hooked up with this guy from the fraternity and had sex with him that night. I couldn't have stopped her because she would have gotten mad. The next day we found out that the guy is seeing someone else and is known all around campus for taking advantage of girls when they're drunk.ˇ¨ The second major problem is the binge drinkers usually with trouble with the law. In the Harvard study, there are in total 61% of male and female binge drinkers had arguments with friends in one or more time since the beginning of the school year. In addition, about 30% of them had damaged someoneˇ¦s property, 69% had engaged in unplanned sexual activities, and 31% had not been using protection when they had sex (Source 6). Sexual assault is the other side of problem. According to one study, 90% of all reported campus rapes occurred when the assailant or the victim used alcohol (Source 3). Julie A. Thompson, substance/sexual abuse services coordinator in the University of Northern Iowa, said ˇ§I have been in this position for seven years, I havenˇ¦t seen a sexual assault case that is not alcohol-related.ˇ¨ during the interview (Source 5).
