Computer Engineering

Throughout today’s society there is no way that you could accurately say technology has not, and will not, influence us anymore.  Current technology is moving at such a faster pace, that it is incredible what sorts of things we have.  So whom do we give all of the credit to?  Who or whom was it that was and is moving technology forward?  Well, believe it or not, it’s the engineers’ job, not seclusively, but in general.  Their career is based on finding, building, researching, creating, testing, etc new ideas for newly developed products.  Several engineers throughout the world specialize in an area.  It is such a distinctively specific type of career that there is no choice but to specialize.  It is necessary in order to fulfill your job criteria.  There are so many details and bits of information that it would be practically impossible for one person to be a specialist in all forms of engineering.  This job is found in so many completely different areas, which makes the career important.  For example, computer engineering, there are about six or seven specific types of engineers.  There are also several careers that go along with housing, construction, etc.  The dictionary definition of engineering is: A person trained in, skilled at, or professionally engaged in a branch of engineering or construction.  The basic purpose of an engineer is to construct, build, and create new devices and ways to create the new devices.

On my own behalf, I would like to go into the computer-engineering field.  Although I have not been too selective as to chose which area to study specifically, I am thinking that I like the hardware engineering field a bit more mostly because I’m not a big computer programming fan.  The road to being a hardware engineer is a long and difficult one.

Now it’s time to see what degree based information companies look for.  Well as a minimum you must have at least a bachelors degree in computer engineering.  They do allow computer science degrees also because they are almost the exact same career.  If you get a degree in any other field dealing with math, computers, science, or physics you are worth so much more to a company.  The best part is that several companies will send you off to school, while employed, with them because they want to continue your education before your education becomes outdated.

The following are skills that an employee must have.  Think of them as pre-requisites for the job.  If for one reason or another you do not have a few of these characteristics, you should probably not consider this career. Now what sort of education does it require?  Right in the beginning you must have a knowledge of engineering and designing.  You need to be creative and construct and think imaginatively.  You should definitely have some knowledge of computer science, mathematics, and physical and social sciences.  All of these components are used in one way or another throughout a single day of work.  If you are a procrastinator, you are better off finding a different job because they require you to make decisions and plan projects. Having great communications skills to work with users and team members is also a necessity.  They hope you can think analytically.  They look for people that are able to develop and test products not to mention be able to design and use database products.  In this career field you are constantly testing and taking results.  You should be ready to manage projects, do a cost analysis, and persistently work toward a goal in spite of interruptions and distractions.  This is one of those jobs that if you cannot handle stress well, you don’t want to be a hardware engineer.  The job requires long days and hours based on deadlines, although they (companies) do compensate you well for your time and dedication with money and benefits.

Experience is a very essential part of this career.  Why?  Mostly because the more you practice the better you get.  This job requires you learn from it.  You learn from your mistakes and practice makes perfect.  ...
