UFOs: Fact or Fiction?

Are we alone in the universe?  Are we alone in our solar system?   Are we even alone on earth?  Many people believe that extraterrestrial life (aliens) exists in our universe, some believe other planets in our solar system support alien life, and a few people claim to have even seen aliens or UFOs in or on Earth.  Whether in the form of an unidentified flying object (UFO) or the actual alien being itself, extraterrestrial life has visited Earth according to some eyewitnesses, UFO enthusiasts, and even scientists and historians.  Science still has yet to answer why aliens would visit Earth, but the many people that personally and professionally believe in aliens have their own opinions of why aliens would visit Earth.
There are many beliefs of why aliens would, or do, visit Earth, and some of the more general beliefs are that aliens want to help Earth, take over Earth, or are just exploring space the same way human beings are now.  According to some, aliens believe that people are going to destroy Earth, and the aliens are here to assist us in not destroying ourselves.  The more common belief amongst people is that aliens are out to take over the universe, destroy Earth, and take people as their slaves is a major step in the race amongst aliens to take over the universe.  The movies, stories, articles, and TV shows have hyped this belief and more people believe it than the theory of aliens helping humans.  The last of the three general beliefs is that the aliens are just exploring space the same way humans are.  Humans will be capable of going to other planets soon, and the aliens must be able to do so, as well.  Some abductees claim that they have been abducted
by aliens and were unharmed, but aliens performed many tests on the human.  Although many people do not believe the abductees, some people do believe that aliens are just as explorative as humans.
There are also the purist that repeat Carl Sagan’s quote, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."  Hard, scientific evidence has yet to come forward by the enthusiasts, who make the extraordinary claims, nor the purist, who need the extraordinary evidence, that aliens do or do not exist.  Eyewitnesses of UFO sightings are the best evidence for the existence of UFOs.  However, ninety percent of UFO sightings are identified as conventional objects, such as planets, stars, aircraft, birds, balloons, kites, flares, peculiar clouds, meteors, and satellites.  Technically, a UFO is a flying object that cannot be identified as it is seen but is still unidentified after investigation (“Unidentified”).  A little less than ten percent of UFO sightings remain unidentified after further investigation but the amount is substantial considering the amount of sightings that are investigated.
One of the more famous UFO investigations is the crash at Roswell, New Mexico that occurred sometime in the first week of July 1947.  A rancher by the name of Mac Brazel was checking on his sheep after a large storm the previous night and discovered wreckage nearby.  The wreckage’s physical properties were strange to Brazel so he decided to take a piece of the wreckage to show to his friends.  At first the local Roswell sheriff and his assistants investigated the wreckage but the investigation was soon taken over by the U.S. military.  The 509th Bomb Group in Roswell issued a press release on July 8, 1947, shortly after their investigation, stating they found a “crashed disk”.  A few hours lat...
