"The American Century"

Change has been a constant process in the United States.  Americans have experienced some very tough times, but has always pulled through.  There have been some great improvements in American society, especially in the last one hundred and thirty years.  Because of all the military, political, and economical changes between 1870 through 1910, Historians have branded the twentieth century as "The American Century".  Only because of the United States past can historians even think of giving such a title to this period in time.
By 1870 the American people had been through several military conflicts.  They had been through the Revolutionary War, which was for their independence from England.  Americans had also been through the Civil War, because of a possible succession of one half of the country from the other.  Much of the politics surrounding this time frame were in a reformist state.  Politicians  wanted to be isolationist as opposed to expanding into other parts of the world.  The idea of invention was in its young stage as well.  Even though there were some inventions such as the steam engine, locomotive, and interchangeable parts, none of them greatly effected the economy.  Despite the two wars, reformist ways, and few economic factors that existed, America was bound for an explosion and that is why the 1870's was so important to the change in America's way of life.
                              
    When the 1870's rolled around, America was waiting for change to come.  There were no significant military conflicts during this time, even though the threat of conflict helped in the trade market.  American politicians were starting to think in a progressive frame of mind.  They wanted to be more explorative and expand trade with other countries.  Also at this time a basic foreign policy was under development, the main issues were working to improve trade and economic ties between other countries.  Industry made an extraordinary jump.  Through some key inventions and ideas such as Bessemer's Steel furnace and the expanding railroads industry, the American economy flourished.  Many industrial giants such as Rockefeller and Carnegie got wealthy off of the growing economy.  Many of the changes of the 1870's did not fully gel until the 1880's and 1890's came around.
The 1880's and 1890's had very few military problems, virtually none.  The American people had not seen a military conflict since the Civil War.  Their political view...
