Creative Writing

     The evening was chilly, and I could feel goose bumps forming on my arms as my friends and I stood outside the �Power Bar� nightclub.  We had already been waiting in line for almost half an hour, and I was beginning to get impatient.  This was my nightclub debut, and I was eager to get my first taste of the scenery.
     Upon entering the club, I noticed two very tall bouncers guarding the stairs that led up to the bar and dance floor.   As I innocently proceeded to walk up the staircase, I was brought to an abrupt halt by the female guard.  I was shocked and slightly offended when she checked my companions and I for weapons, before allowing us to continue up to the bar.  My friends reassured me however, that this frisking was a necessary routine at all clubs.
     The club was dimly lit, and very crowded.  The walls were covered in abstract pastel colored murals, which created a whimsical atmosphere in the room.  I decided to stand by the bar so I could scan the crowd.   The majority of the people were relatively young, but to my surprise, I noticed a few people who were undoubtedly in the thirty-something age group.   There was one such man standing a few feet away from me, who looked particularly out of place.  He was a scrawny man and looked as if he was drowning amidst his vinyl and polyester attire.   And as I watched the crowd through the thick clouds of smoke I hoped that this tiny man, who was now staring at me very intensely, would maintain his distance from me.
