Poverty There are large numbers of people in poverty around the world. Most important phenomenon that affects me personally is children at work. Children at work exist in various part of the world include in some part of the Europe and South America. End of nineteen century, early twentieth century Canada was also a victim of child labour. Children young as 4 years of age worked for very little money in the industry and in the mine, and many died of hunger and fatigue. The International Labour Office (ILO) carried their research to determine the basis cause of the child labour. They helped reduced the child labour in grand number and since then their research has started early nineteen century. Many other organizations at international level support to eliminate child labour. Organization such as UNICEF, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the World Bank and the regional development banks and many others still making an effort to eliminate child labour. In a poverty family, children of young age who works are very common. In fact, the parents encourage their children when they pass a certain age. They believe working at young age helps to learn skills in the future. They don't know the harmful effect that will cause to the child. The more children there are in a family, the more help are provided to increase the family's income. Parents do not think that their children are victims of exploitation, rather, they believer they have the right to take advantage of exploitation. Some families are fortunate to pass down the small business they own to the younger generation. The one to carry the blame for the child labour is not the families but the society. It was in the more developed countries that begin to notice the harmfulness of child labour. They introduce compulsory law to give children the necessary of education they need. Gradually, legal and practical measures were introduced. They were also designed to protect the adult's employment and wages because children carry out heavy-duty work and earn lower wage that could be done by and adult for a higher wage. Law in most countries prohibits Child labour. Families can't afford to pay the children for school and for that reason, the child is introduced to the outside world to practice and gain experience, also it helps the family to increase the income. Child labour is illegal therefor they can't claim social benefits that should be due to them. Children are defenseless to negotiate their condition of work with no trade union to defend them. Poverty-stricken children have no option but to work for his basic need. For smallest payments in cash, children would go through hard work, which a child should not do for his young age. In some countries, centuries old tradition impels the child to work from an early age. In some cases, the children are led to believe that he must work from an early age in solidarity so he can help his family who are in crisis.
