Finding Your Perfect University Robin Davidson Mr. Taylor English 10:00 September 21,1998 Although Opinions of a perfect university may be different, there is one major question that comes across every college students mind. How do you know you are getting the proper education and skills that you will need to succeed in your goal for life. Analyzing and looking into a college to see if it will benefit your standards and requirements that are needed for you to achieve your degree. Doing this will help you from wasting all of your time, and not to mention a lot of money on a college that is not right for you. First of all, knowing what your goal in college is will help you when it comes time to choose your university. Some universities are just interested in getting you to go to their school so their percentage rating will be the highest of all, instead of being interested in what it will take to make it more convenient in succeeding in your career. Like Alan Bloom stated in his essay “Universities have become like supermarkets stuffed with trendy subjects and majors.” (Bloom “The Student and there University” 52). As we all know, college can be very expensive. If you are not careful, you might end up taking classes and courses that you don’t need, just so the college can get more money. Bloom also had a good point in his essay when he pointed out that sometimes you end up paying for an education that you are not getting. For example: Why should you have to take a musical appreciation class or a theater arts class if you are trying to major as a marine biologists. Things like this should be looked into before a student should pick classes and courses. The schools may have you buying books that are running anywhere from thirty dollars up to a hundred dollars and all for what, a class that doesn’t have anything to do with what your degree plans going to be.
