Biography of Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix was born Johnny Allen Hendrix on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. At the time Jimi was born his father Al was serving in the Army after being drafted as a result of World War 2. His mother, Lucille left him to stay with his grandmother and many friends while she went out to party. Jimi was very poorly taken care of until his father returned from the army. At the time Jimi was three. However, dueto financial problems, he helplessly watched as one of his brothers was adopted and the other went to a foster home. Al cared for him very much and gave him his first guitar at the age of fifteen. This is where the Jimi Hendrix legend all began.
In 1959 Jimi joins the Rocking Kings and makes his live debut. However, due to problems with the other band members he dropped out. In October 1960 he also dropped out of Garfield High in his senior year. With much time on his hands he soon got arrested for car theft in May 1961. When things started looking bleak for Jimi he joined the army. Here he looked to turn his life around and made many successful jumps in the 101st airborne. However, his fate soon took control of his life after seven months of the army when he was given an honorable discharge after breaking his ankle.
Once again Jimi turned to music. This time he took it up more seriously and discovered his supernatural talent. He soon found himself playing in Nashville clubs with bands such as Bobby Taylor and he also toured with Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke. In July of 1965 he signed his first record deal for two years with Sue Records. The duo he would play with would be bass player Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell. Just a few weeks later Jimi headed for London and the Jimi Hendrix Experience formed. This is the band in which he did most of his work and is widely known for. Their first hit was “Hey Joe”. Later Jimi and crew made their first album “Are You Experienced?” On April 4, 1967 the recordings for this album were finished and Jimi was widely known and admired. Six months later they made “Axis: Bold as Love”. To follow this they made “Electic Ladyland” Jimi’s last completed album.
Things didn’t continue in Jimi’s favor for long as his temper and drug addiction caught up with him. In May of 1969 he was arrested for possession of heroin at the Toronto International Airport. He was soon realeased on $10,000 bail. One month later Jimi replaced Noel Redding with Billy Cox after an arg...Read entire document
