Eulogy for Charlemagne

Dear family, friends and followers,
We are gathered here today in the year 814, to pray for the soul of our beloved ruler, Charlemagne,
Son of Pepin the Short.  He was an intelligent man and a mighty warrior.  He conquered many lands and
then united them as one.  Charlemagne was a strong supporter of the Roman Catholic Church.  He was
crowned emperor of the Romans by Pope Leo III.
Charlemagne was a kind and fair man, loved by all of us gathered here in his honor.  He believed in
justice and good government for all.  He formed a social structure to try to help improve our living
conditions. Charlemagne was an educated man and he was always looking for a better way to get things
done.  He introduced better ways for us to farm.  He improved the education system for our young.
Lord hear our prayers and welcome our beloved ruler, Charlemagne, into the heavens.  Please give us
the strength to go on without him.  Guide us so we may continue to do right by all of those that loved
and served him.
                                                    AMEN

Journal Entry in the Daily Life of a Peasant

sun.  I pray each night to my lord that we will have a good growing season.  We have had two bad growing
seasons in a row.  Two years ago, we had the drought and it ...
