Movie Report: The Crucible This movie was based on the play, The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller. It was directed by Nicholas Hytner, and produced by David V. Picker and Robert A Miller. The three main stars were Daniel Day Lewis-John Procter, Winona Ryder-Abigail Williams, and Paul Scofield-Judge Danforth. The movie was colorized and probably shortened from the play. It is rated Pg-13 and it is 123 minutes long. I watched it on Saturday, the 22nd in my room. Several of the town girls and Tituba were caught making mischief and dancing in the forest. Fearing that they would get in deep trouble they started making up lies and blaming innocent people to have dealt with the devil. The group of girls was led by Abigail,”Abby”, Williams. She used the whole story to try and get John Proctor to leave his wife and marry her. Their stories get out of control and almost everyone in Salem is a suspect. In the end Abby gets John Proctor hung also. The story line is basically historically accurate. The Salem witch trials really happened, but there were a few minor things that weren’t accurate. Tituba was Amerindian, probably South American Arawak, not African. The girls didn’t really fall into that sleep, they through very violent fits. The Parris family was...
