Left Out in the Cold

Cold fusion maybe the answer to the energy crisis of the world At the moment, the academic
world does not believe that it exists but that hasn't stopped a number of  scientists claiming they
have made the biggest break through since the discovery  fire.
Cold fusion is the name of a nuclear process which, it is claimed, creates huge amounts of
energy using very little fuel and causes no pollution. In short, it is the perfect way to create almost
limitless amounts of electricity.
The process is called cold fusion because, unlike the nuclear fusion found in the Sun, the
temperatures never reach more than a few hundred degrees centigrade. This may sound hot, but it
is a lot less than the millions of degrees found in the Sun.
The Sun creates all its heat and light from nuclear fusion. It forces together hydrogen nuclei (the
very center of hydrogen atoms -also the most common material in the universe) to make helium -
the gas that fills balloons or the good year blimp. This gives out lots of energy but can only
happen at extremely high temperatures in the first place. The only fusion to be found on the Earth
is when a hydrogen bomb explodes - hence its  a very unsafe way to make energy!
An essential characteristic of cold fusion is that more energy comes out of the generator than
was put in. Critics claim this could be due to a normal chemical reaction: if you add bleach...
