Timetable of Significant Events Since 1918

Since the year 1918, there have been many political events that effected the world. These caused conflicts among people but they have also helped the society.
One of ten significant events is the space race. During the late 1950s, 1960s, the United States and the Russians were competing for domination in their space programs. The race heated up after the launch of the first artificial satellite; the Sputnik. The battle kept on going as the Russians and the Americans both launched satellites. The Americans though won the race as they walked on the moon first.
Another significant event in US history was the Energy Crisis or the Oil Shock. The first was in 1973. Until then, oil was cheap and secure but in October, because of the Arab-Israeli War, the Arab oil-producing countries cut back on oil-production embargoed oil to the United States. This caused panic and crisis in the United States. Oil was now expensive and hard to get. People now had to wait in long lines to purchase gas. There was a second crisis in 1978 much like the first one. This time, it was caused by the revolution that eventually drove the shah of Iran from his throne. Iran was a major exporter and then Iranian oil production and exports dropped to low levels. The Iran-Iraq war also raised prices and prices were 19 times higher than they were just ten years ago.
Next is the Women's Right to vote. Until the 19th amendment, they had to climb many obstacles. The women also had some aid. For example, the 14th amendment and the 15th amendment helped focus the women's rights on suffrage. The 15th amendment stated that nobody could be denied the right to vote because of skin, race, etc. Activists like Susan B. Anthony helped organize the group and in 1920, the 19th amendment was written allowing women the right to vote ending long years of unfair judgement
Then, it is the cold war. This was a post-1945 and lasted until about 1985. It was a struggle between the United States, its allies, and a group of nations led by the Soviet Union. Although direct military conflict did not occur, economic and diplomatic struggles erupted. The Russians and the United States were friendly for about a century until 1944~1945 when Russian leader Joseph Stalin and Harry Truman had disagreements and problems. The war began to widen in the 1950s when both countries conquered many different countries and they were threatening each other more. Finally, many of the Soviet's allies split, Europe became restless, and Nationalism was proving to be stronger than communism. In 1985, President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev agreed to cut back on power and it ended.
Another famous event that affected the world and the United States was the Russian Revolution of 1905 and 1917. The revolution in 1905 was caused by dissatisfaction with the imperial government. Middle and Lower Class people reformed for a constitutional system. Industrial workers wanted better working conditions and pay. Finally, the peasants wanted the government to redistribute the rich people’s land. By 1905, the population disagreed with the government. Emperor Nicholas II then organized a Duma; the Lower House of the Russian Parliament. The political system changed dramatically but he gradually got his power back. In the revolution of 1917, the people revolted against the government again. The people wanted to overthrow the autocratic and czarist government. They had failed in the revolution of 1905 but this time they succeeded. After their terrible involvement in World War 1, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was formed on De...
