A Job as a Multimedia Developer


Since I enjoy working with computers and computer based imaging, I would enjoy a career as a multimedia developer.  This is a job in which one creates and designs computer graphics, CD-ROMS, and other interactive programs (Job Guides).


In order to become a multimedia developer, will need a college diploma or post secondary diploma or degree for a good chance at getting a job. Almost any college will offer one of these.  Getting a part-time job or an internship with multimedia developers is excellent preparatory experience (Savage).  While in college is a good time to do this so that you have experience after graduation.  Aesthetics and computer science are both needed to work in this field (Multimedia Developer).  You will also need a portfolio expressing your own creative style (Savage).  Some colleges offer summer courses that teach multimedia developing and other specialties in that field.  Here you can start to build a portfolio.


To get started, you would probably work for ad agencies, retail, wholesale, magazines, textiles, printing, and publishing (Savage).  Of course you would start from the bottom and work your way up, but if you are prepared and looking for opportunities, you will move up through the company quickly.  After you get this opening, there are plenty of jobs to apply for at these companies.  As a computer animator you would draw, design, and produce interactive material for multimedia projects. For example, the production of storyboards, stop-animation, and the drawing of cartoons so as that they appear to be moving, is considered to fall under this profession.  An author-based programmer would put the right multimedia authoring technologies together to assemble the correct components to make a multimedia end product.  This includes writing scripts, using namespaces, writing extensions, and packages.  Computer based graphic designers use computer programs and special software to control the graphics and media in a multimedia package.  Such things as cover art for CD-ROMs and other multimedia products are this jo...
