Term Papers on Abortion
Abortion Is there a dilemma in your life where you can’t come up with a straight answer? In today’s society there are many controversial issues. One such issue that affects many people is abortion. Some people are pro-choice (supporters of abortion) others are pro-life (against abortion). This has been a hot topic for a very long time. There are many reasons why abortion should be illegal. Abortion is defined as the termination of a pregnancy before the fetus is capable of independent life. According to Encarta Encyclopedia, abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before birth, resulting in death of the fetus. There are two types of abortion. One is unplanned and the other is induced. An unplanned abortion is most commonly known as a miscarriage and usually occurs during the first three months of pregnancy. The second form of abortion is induced abortion. This is when the termination of the fetus is planned. An induced abortion is performed using drugs or surgery. One reason abortion should be illegal is because it is dangerous to the pregnant woman. Women in increasing numbers...hundreds...thousands...and even tens of thousands who have had an abortion have had their wombs infected and destroyed. Some women have even been sterilized. During the abortion, dilation is used to open the cervix wide enough so that the opening could have room for the abortion instruments. Unlike a normal birth, where the cervix is slowly opened during many hours, in an abortion the cervix is stretched open in just a few seconds. The unnatural form of dilation is very dangerous and can cause permanent physical damage to the pregnant woman or even cause her to die. For example, Rebecca Bell from Indiana was 17 when she found out she was pregnant. She went to Planned Parenthood where she found out that she needed parental consent to get an abortion. She didn’t want her parents to know, so she drove her car 110 miles to Kentucky to get an abortion where she didn’t need parental consent. After Rebecca got back, she began to feel very weak. She was sick all the time and was loosing her appetite. Her mother took her to the hospital thinking that her daughter had caught a bad case of the flu and would be fine in a few days. Rebecca Bell died on September... This is ONLY a preview of the article. If you would like to view the entire document, you must subscribe to Digital Term Papers. Please register below now!
