DESIGN IMPROVEMENT

I have completed a 7 week project on IFC�s capability to support an earlier design process. This project was approved on March 12, 2004. In agreement to the original proposal dated March 6, 2004, the project was performed.

This report includes all research, surveys and interviews involved in the project. IFC�s capability to support an earlier design process is based on a series of studies and observations.  As a result, I have concluded that they have great capability to support an earlier design process by making a few adjustments to their work system.

Thank you for allowing me to complete this project. I look forward in performing future studies to observe the gradual development and improvement of the company.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

International Finance Corporation (IFC) promotes economic development in several member countries by providing loans and equity financing for private sector investment. The IFC is part of the World Bank group.  The IFC was intrigued when Shaun Bush proposed to investigate the company potential to support early design processes.  This study lasted for a period of seven weeks.

Bush conducted a total of two tests in which the company did fairly well.  However, some areas were in need of improvement.  Under the early design stage, the company needs to improve in areas including: minimizing their requirements, expanding employment and increasing office hours.

Bush suggests that (1) minimizing certain requirements would allow more to be done, with the work quality maintained. (2 & 3) Expanding employment and office hours permits the work to be completed at a faster pace while still being efficient. This will allow for more projects to be accomplished, and it will increase business productivity. With IFC�s supervision and with the use of these guidelines the company will be able to expand to new opportunities.
