‘Abortion is always wrong’ Do you agree?
Section C
I agree with the statement that ‘Abortion is always wrong’ to a certain extent because a Roman Catholic believes that abortion is murder. He or she would quote ‘Do not kill’ from the Ten Commandments. Roman Catholics believe life begins at conception. In 1968, Pope Paul VI wrote in a human vitae that it was an absolute rule for Roman Catholics that abortion was wrong. In 1970, Pope Paul VI restated that abortion had always been considered murder since the early church and nothing had changed to alter that view.
Another reason is that Human life is sacred, the definition of ‘Human’ in the oxford reference dictionary is ‘of or belonging to mankind.’ This insinuates that you cannot take it away because it does not belong to you, in the same paper based book I looked up the word ‘Sacred’ This word is defined as ‘Associated with or dedicated to God or a God’ This indicates that the human life belongs to God and nobody can take it away except for God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that human life is sacred;
‘Human life is sacred because from its beginning it involves the creative action of God and it remains for ever in a special relationship with the creator, who is its sole end. God alone is the lord of life from its beginning until its end: no one under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy an innocent human being’
Another person who said that Human life is sacred is Pope Paul VI he said;
‘Human life is sacred- all men should recognise that fact’
This means that most people recognise the fact that human life is sacred therefore everybody should realise why human that human life is sacred.
Furthermore I am going to refer to the Church of England’s view on abortion, in 1983; the following statement was put forward by the General Synod (the government of the Anglican worldwide church):
‘The Church of England combines strong opposition to abortion with the recognition that there can be strictly limited conditions under which it may be morally preferable to any alternative’
The Church believes that the foetus is God-given life and is to be ‘nurtured, supported and protected’. The mother is to be shown compassion and her wishes and feelings are to be recognised. The statement continues:
‘The foetus has the right to live and develop as a member of the human family; abortion the termination of a life by an act of a man, is a...Read entire document
