The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

          Benjamin Franklin is a very particular and one of a kind individual. One of Franklin’s main goals in writing this autobiography was the set an example to the younger generations. He does this by showing his success in wealth, reputation and power even though he came from poverty. Franklin, in what can be looked at as almost arrogance, is making an example of himself to illustrate important American qualities. He explains how he shaped himself into an exemplary citizen with hard work and dedication.

          Franklin had high regard for his family. His father teaches him a lesson of honest work that he will carry throughout his entire life, and it is very evident in the story of himself. When Franklin becomes interested in writing his father supports him, even though he does not think it is the best thing for him to be doing. At the young age of 17, Franklin goes out on his own to Philadelphia to find a job. He ends up running Mr. Keimer’s printing business. Franklin is intelligent and diligent. Over the next few years, Franklin travels to Boston, London and other places. He becomes successful and earns the respect of the community in all his journeys. Franklin also values his friendships. Many of the friends that he makes he keeps close throughout his life. Some of these people include Charles Osborne, Joseph Watson, and James Ralph. Franklin goes into business with Mr. Meredith. When Meredith is unable to pay the remaining debt on the printing business, friends of Franklin offer to help him on the condition that he cut ties with Meredith. They believed he was untrustworthy. However, Franklin believed he has an obligation to Meredith and refused to separate himself from his partner. This shows Franklin’s integrity.

          Franklin favored the idea of an increase in the amount of paper money. He, being very interested in the matter, felt is would help trade and business flourish along with employment. Franklin was so concerned with the paper money issue that he wrote a pamphlet on it and printed it which won the favor of many other people. Franklin in all his success had become quite wealthy. And at that time wealthy people did not want more paper money because they felt it would diminish the value of their money. But not Franklin. He remained humble ...
