Chapter 20: The New Frontier and the Great Society: Pg: 671: A: I think that the effect that the televised debate would have on politics would be that it brought a new image to politics, and now political members were going to be shown on television rather than just on print, as through television one can actually see what a politician is about. In 1965 he opened the doors and hundreds of thousands of people took advantage of an agreement that allowed Cubans to join relatives in the United States. In 1973 the Cuban population n Miami had increased to about 200, 000. Pg: 676: F: The thing that led East Germany to erect the Berlin Wall was when Kennedy to give up U.S. access to West Berlin. The effects of the wall were that it ended the Berlin crisis but further aggravated Cold War tensions. The wall reduced the flow of East German refugees to a tiny trickle, thus solving Khrushchev’s main problem. At the same time, however, the wall became a symbol of Communist oppression.
